Hackers threaten to remotely delete 300 Million iPhone users unless Apple Pay Ransom
This is an interesting story to follow and learn how these hackers known as Turkish Crime Family were able to steal 300+ Million iPhone users information. If this is true, Apple will be in a hot seat again not in their favor.
“A hacker or group of hackers is apparently trying to extort Apple over alleged access to a large cache of iCloud and other Apple email accounts.
The hackers, who identified themselves as ‘Turkish Crime Family’, demanded $75,000 in Bitcoin or Ethereum, another increasingly popular crypto-currency, or $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards in exchange for deleting the alleged cache of data.
“I just want my money and thought this would be an interesting report that a lot of Apple customers would be interested in reading and hearing,” one of the hackers told Motherboard.
The hackers provided screenshots of alleged emails between the group and members of Apple’s security team. One also gave Motherboard access to an email account allegedly used to communicate with Apple.” (2017, Motherboard)
I will update this article as soon as I get new information. I’m interested to know what exploits, vulnerabilities, social engineering or combination of attack used to beat Apple security.
Update: 4/7/2017.
Today April 7 is the deadline given by the “Turkish Crime Family” to delete Apple iCloud accounts. So far, nothing is happening.
“Apple is reassuring customers that its systems have not been breached while a hacker, or hackers, threaten to remotely wipe hundreds of millions iPhones of all their data, including photos, videos, and messages.” (April 22, 2017. Fortune.com)
Is there any new update on this story? I would like to know what happened.
I am too. I know Apple will not pay the ransom. I will update the article if I have some information to share.
Apple is reassuring customers that its systems have not been breached. Apple score 1, Turkish Crime Family is zero. 🙂
There is nothing safe in cyber world. Hacker give big slap on apple’s face. And @EM i think they will pay them secretly. They want there customers to be happy and tension free. They don’t want to loose them..
There is no evidence that “Turkish Crime Family” even have access to these accounts. It is simply an online scare, nothing more.
By the way, did you know “Norton” is a trademarked brand? I suggest that you change your domain name to something else before you receive a “Cease and Desist” C&D from their lawyers.
