New gTLDs domain names has no impact to our business.

Author: EM @ KING.NET

When do you expect to make a profit when you invest? 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years?

I like some of the new domain extensions that make sense for business so I invested two to three thousand to registered in new domain extensions like .guru .buzz .estate .zone .ninja .team and few other extensions. Though I can’t wait for 5 or 10 years to see return of my investment. By February 2016, this will be the second years of my investment.

I don’t know about you but I have not receive any single offer to any of the domain names I registered using the new gTLDs. While the legacy domain extensions .com .net and .org continue to surge their value. As of writing this article, the price of premium four letters dot com is $2,200 plus change.

In my humble opinion, only the registries making money in new TLDs not entrepreneurs like us. They control most of the premium domain names, and will sell you at high price and premium renewal too. I can’t be part of this business model.

David Brown, CEO of Web.com “So in the gTLD space, that continues to be positive, but we’re not doing back flips here. It’s not that positive. We think it’s good for the market, good for consumers and businesses to have more choices. But it’s not – they’re not flying off the table. .Com and .net and the original extensions still are the force in the marketplace. But as we see more gLTDs and as the market understands them and sees the opportunity, we continue to believe that this will be a positive trend. But at this point, it’s not moving the needle in our business or likely in anyone’s business.” (2015 DNW)

For alternative domain investment. I started following the four letters dot com increase of interest from Chinese investors especially with the premium letters. Not a Chinese Premium Letters are A, E, I, O , U and V. The four letters .com .net .org are all taken.

What about numbers? all four to five numbers are all taken. Some six numbers .com still selling cheap, maybe not for long.

Right now, the Chinese premium four letters .com is selling like a hot pancakes.

They embraced the legacy domain name extension e.g. .com .net and .org. They don’t care other extensions.

I will not be surprise to see five to six letters .com value increase in the next 2-3 years. Register or buy them today, they are low capital to manage in your domain portfolio.

Due diligence is always recommended before you buy your next domain.

For now, I will not register a domain name in new gTLDs and will keep what I have as long as I can hold them. Hopefully end-user will start using the new TLD soon.
