Windows 10 Upgrade stuck on Checking for Updates

I’m upgrading a laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and keep asking me to check for updates. I was not able to continue the upgrade to Windows 10.

To save you some time of research on how to fix it. Here’s how I resolved this upgrade issue.

Option 1. I ran the Windows Update Diagnostic Tool and restart the laptop. To download the tool, visit http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9830262

The link will install the program, click open and run. It will automatically fix any patches issue. Restart and continue your Windows 10 Upgrade.

Option 2. Download Media Creation Tool. Well, you don’t really need to download it. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/ click on Download Tool Now, you will ask to choose 1)To upgrade this PC 2)Download Tool. Click on Upgrade, this will start downloading Windows 10. If this work for you congratulation.

Option 3. Create a Windows 10 installation using USB or DVD. The link will provide you step-by-step procedure on how you can create a boot disk. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Let us know if this helps.

By the way, upgrade laptop/desktop to Windows 10 before July 29, 2016 while still free. After that date you have to pay for your license to upgrade.
