Facebook Additional Security?

I tried to login to my Facebook account and now the website is asking me to upload my photo. I am not like other people posting pictures or selfies. I am a very shy person so I’m not comfortable of uploading my picture.

Well, they said

“send us a photo (clearly shows your face), we’ll check it and then permanently delete it from our servers”

Do you believe that?

And my question is, how they will know that I am on the picture considering I did not upload any personal picture under my account in the past. Hmm…
