For consultant like me. Now, I have more options to offer to my clients. The dot com is a preferred choice, but if budget is limited we have so many alternative that makes sense. It is up to the customer to decide.

I always use the facebook experience. When they started, they used TheFacebook.com domain name because of limited funding at that time. Now they make billions, they bought  and re-brand to use Facebook.com. Not contented and because they have so much money to spend, also decided to purchased FB.com for millions.
